Quincy Community Theatre invites the Tri-States to experience the jungle like never before with the legendary musical TARZAN ®.

This production, based on the Disney film, tells the story of a small child orphaned by a shipwreck in a dangerous new world. Tarzan is found and raised by the kind gorilla Kala and learns to lead the life of an ape. Yet, when the young explorer Jane enters the jungle and Tarzan discovers strangers like himself, love and family conflict as the two worlds collide.

QCT’s interpretation emphasizes the show’s themes of oneness and communication by utilizing a script specially adapted for this production, as well as the talent of Quincy University’s Interpreter Studies Program, to seamlessly integrate American Sign Language into the dialogue, choreography, and the Phil Collins songs featured in the show.

The end result is a production unique to QCT. Featuring 38 local performers, TARZAN ® was cast so that every character has a double to provide either voice or ASL interpretation during the production — ensuring every audience member will enjoy and understand the production each step of the way.

“To me, TARZAN ® is a story about communication,” said Director of Student Theatre Kelsey Celek. “The way we interact and share information with each other can differ drastically, but there are some things – love, trust, family – that have the same value to us all.
