Poinciana man held in slaying of another during a fight – News – The Ledger – Florida News

Daniel Ponce of 423 Mallard Lane, Kissimmee, has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in the stabbing death of 38-year-old Brandon J. Burchett of 580 Finch Court, Kissimmee.

POINCIANA — A 29-year-old Poinciana man has been arrested in the slaying of another Poinciana man on Saturday, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Daniel Ponce of 423 Mallard Lane, Kissimmee, has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in the stabbing death of 38-year-old Brandon J. Burchett of 580 Finch Court, Kissimmee.

Burchett was stabbed several times during a fight in his driveway, Sheriff’s Office detectives said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ponce said he stabbed Burchett in self-defense during the fight.

The slaying Saturday had its roots in an argument the two men had Friday at Burchett’s home, detectives said. Ponce was asked to leave Burchett’s residence and the two kept arguing through text messages.

On Saturday afternoon, Ponce rode a bicycle to Burchett’s home and sent him a text message asking him to come outside, detectives said.

Detectives said witnesses told them, that when Burchett came out, Ponce began yelling expletives and walked into the driveway holding his fists in front of him. Ponce then swung at Burchett, which led to a fight.

During the fight, Ponce took a pocketknife from his pocket and stabbed Burchett in the abdomen area and arm, detectives said.

Burchett then ran inside of his house yelling for someone to call 911 and that he had just been stabbed.
