PRESTONSBURG – Big Sandy Area Development District held its 2017 Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 24. During the meeting, Floyd County Judge-Executive Ben Hale took over a key post.
Big Sandy Area Development District (ADD) is a regional nonprofit organization by which local officials and citizens come together to form committees, leadership and planned growth for the Big Sandy area. Big Sandy ADD provides an infrastructure in which many local organizations can come together for an individual or individuals who may need several services. The organization can form partnerships and make recommendations for services that provide for the needs of local citizens.
One example of how the organization promotes economic leadership is by bringing together a group of legislators, Kentucky Department of Transportation officials, county tourism officials, representatives from the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System and the Spearhead Trail System, ADD directors and other interested parties to discuss Adventure Tourism in 18 counties. The state is promoting tourism in Eastern Kentucky in hopes that it may ease local economic struggles.
