Recorder’s office in Carthage to process passport applications – News – The Carthage Press –  Missouri News

Jasper County residents will soon have a location in Carthage where they can apply for U.S. Passports to travel overseas and outside the country.

Jasper County residents will soon have a location in Carthage where they can apply for U.S. Passports to travel overseas and outside the country.
Jasper County Recorder of Deeds Charlotte Pickering said her office is working through the process to become a Passport Acceptance Facility and she hopes to begin taking passport applications by sometime in March.
If approved, the Jasper County Recorder’s Office will be the fifth location in Jasper County where people can get a passport.
The other Passport Acceptance Facilities in Jasper County are the North Main Street Post Office in Joplin and the post offices in Jasper, Webb City and Sarcoxie.
Pickering said officials at the Carthage Post Office asked her if she was willing to take on the job.
“The Carthage Post Office approached me and asked if I’d consider it and I talked to the commissioners and they approved it, so I started the process,” Pickering said. “I sent in information about our office and what they offer and it was a couple of months before I heard back from them and they said we had been approved.”
Pickering said she does not expect the extra workload to be a problem.
She said she’s talked to other recorder’s offices across Missouri that take passport applications and the workload is similar to taking marriage licenses.
“If that’s the case, we’ll have about 1,200,” Pickering said. “I think it’s good for the community. It’s a service that’s needed in this area. Plus it’s…
