Lubbock, Texas — Shelton State Community College Lady Bucs got a win in the first round of the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament knocking off North Dakota State College of Science 61-49 Monday afternoon.
The Lady Bucs were led in scoring by Cierra Johnson, who finished with a game high 21 points, and Savannah Reier, who added 10.
Shelton State began the game slow and trailed the majority of the first quarter, but took the lead with under a minute to go in the quarter never relinquishing it after that. An 11-2 run at the start of the second quarter fueled the team and swayed momentum in their favor.
North Dakota SCS was able to keep things tight until the fourth quarter where the game finally slipped out of its reach. They were led in scoring by Dayuna Johnson who had 14 points and Kailey Adams with 10.
Shelton State improved its record to 31-2 with the victory. The team has not lost a game since late December and will look to continue its winning ways tomorrow night in the round of 16 game against Tallahassee Community College.
