CHEBOYGAN COUNTY- The mess hall at Camp Walden in Aloha Township will soon be getting an addition after the Cheboygan County Planning Commission approved the construction at its meeting Wednesday night.
“There are two additions that are being placed on that mess hall that were approved administratively,” said Cheboygan County Community Development Planner Scott McNeil. “The 10 percent additions so Camp Walden has exhausted their options under the administrative approvals as they are capped at two.”
Michelle Kruzel came before the planning commission to attempt to get an approval for a deck to be put on the mess hall.
The applicant, the camp, was asking for a series of waivers from the requirements of the site plan, due to the minimal nature of the work they would like to complete.
“I’m noting that the waivers needed are the minimum plan scale, topography, parking areas, loading and unloading areas and location of utilities,” said McNeil. “And then also the location of structures and other things that come under those categories.”
McNeil said the project is pretty straight forward and simple.
The Health Department has been working with the camp recently to install a new septic system and improvements to the kitchen. So far, the camp has been in compliance with all of those regulations.
Planning Commission member Chuck Freese said he was not happy with all of the waivers the camp was requesting for their site plan.
“Having been out there, I don’t really have a problem with it if they address it a little better,” said Freese.
