Steamboat briefs: Opera Steamboat set to host 4 performances this week – Colorado News

Opera Steamboat (formerly Emerald City Opera) is hosting the Opera Colorado Young Artists in Routt County Wednesday, March 22 through Friday, March 24, including performances of “The Barber of Seville” and “The Elixir of Love” in Hayden, South Routt and Steamboat Springs school districts. The week of events will end with an Arias and Ensembles concert at Bud Werner Memorial Library at 7 p.m. Friday, March 24.

The productions will be semi-staged, costumed shows for children of all ages and will commence with a Q&A session. This opportunity will be the first time many students and teachers have ever seen an opera production.

Faculty has been preparing for the production with study guides introducing them to the world of opera and stories behind the productions.

Productions are as follows.

■ “The Barber of Seville” — 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 22 at Soroco Middle and High schools.

■ “The Elixer of Love” — 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at Hayden High School.

■ “The Elixer of Love” — 9 a.m. Friday, March 24 at Steamboat Springs Middle School.

■ “Arias and Ensembles concert — 7 p.m. Friday, March 24 at Bud Werner Memorial Library Library Hall.

Documentary takes a fresh look at farming in America



Bud Werner Memorial Library, Yampa Valley Sustainability Council and the Community Agriculture Alliance present a free screening of the documentary “At the Fork” with discussion about food production at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23 in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library, 1289 Lincoln Ave. This is a free community film in honor of Ag Appreciation Week.
