SCOTTSBLUFF — Riverside Discovery Center will be participating in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums signature Earth Day event and the public in invited to join in.
Riverside Discovery Center will be celebrating with more than 120 zoos and aquariums across the country to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Party for the Planet is a fun day out for the entire family. The event uses educational activities to teach the community about the vital resources that make up planet earth.
There will be five animal encounters at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m., near the Heritage Barn. The animals are part of Riverside Discovery Center’s education program that travel to schools and organizations around town.
“We will talk about them (the animals) and visitors can touch them and ask questions,” said Alex Henwood, education curator.
The animals will be rotated during the day so visitors can return to learn something new every hour.
Zoo keepers will present keeper talks at the chimpanzee enclosure at 11 a.m. and at the tiger enclosure at 1 p.m.
Visitors to Riverside Discovery Center on Earth Day will have the opportunity of seeing the debut of the new petting zoo animals.
“We have baby goats, baby lambs and baby alpacas,” she said.
Interactive stations around the zoo will focus on educating the public about wildlife, nature, conservation and protecting Earth’s natural resources. Visitors participating in Party for the Planet…
