It may sell fresh produce and other products, but it looks like at least one of The Fresh Market’s Long Island stores has an expiration date stamped on it.
The Fresh Market is closing its store at 8285 Jericho Turnpike Woodbury by May 3, in a move that will affect 47 employees.
The Greensboro, NC-based firm in a governmental filing indicated that the last layoffs resulting from this would occur by July 22.
“This move will allow the company to focus on the success, service and growth of its existing portfolio of stores,” the firm said in a written statement. “The decision to close this location was made after careful consideration of the overall growth strategy and long-term performance of the company.”
The firm encouraged shoppers to visit the closest The Fresh Market store at 138 E. Main St. in Smithtown.
Founded in 1982, The Fresh Market, Inc. is a specialty grocery retailer with nearly 180 stores in 24 states.
