Heart of the Bluegrass hits Mercer – The Harrodsburg Herald – Kentucky News

A few raindrops threatened the competition, but held off as the Mercer boys’ track and field team ended the day as Heart of the Bluegrass champions. On the girls side, the Lady Titans took home second place, behind Boyle County.

The Burgin Bulldogs also made their presence known, as the boys placed 16th out of 20 teams and the girls put up a valiant effort, but did not place.

MERCER

Junior Aaron Johnson stole the headlines as he finished first in the high jump event with a 6-02.00 jump, first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.30 seconds and second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.09 seconds.

Senior Rhyan Lanham placed sixth in the high jump, with a jump of 5-08.00.

The Titans took home fourth place in the 4×100 meter relay. The team consisted of Lanham, senior Camden Martin, sophomore Marcus Lewis and junior Mishi Easterling.

BURGIN

The Burgin boys put up a strong effort and placed in events throughout the day, showing promise that the program has a bright future.

Senior Wesley Qualls, a Georgetown college signee, finished 21st in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:23.08 while his teammate, sophomore Drew Hatfield finished 20th with a time of 5:22.85.

In the 4×100 meter relay, seniors Michael Mckenzie, Phillip Hockensmith and Wesley Stewart along with junior Trevar Lay, finished 15th with a time of 51.43.

Senior Micah Dunn placed 14th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.78. Dunn also placed 18th in the long jump event with a 5.19-meter jump. His teammate sophomore Ethan Kestler, finished in 27th with a 4.15-meter jump.
