Ravenous Blountville burglary suspect nabbed while taking nap –  Tennessee News

According to a report at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred Wednesday morning on Catawba Lane. The resident, who was not home at the time, received notification from his security provider that an alarm had sounded but was soon turned off. He believed it was his daughter at the residence.

She did later arrive, found a window broken and dialed 911. Police checked the perimeter and found that all doors were locked from the inside, then they made entry with the use of the daughter’s key.

In the living room, deputies discovered a man on the couch in front of the TV, sound asleep. He was clothed only in his underwear, and police had to yell multiple times before he stirred.

“He reached to cover up with a blanket,” reads an arrest report. “Once he realized we were officers, he woke up and showed his hands.”

The suspect, later identified as Glen Ownby, 34, was allegedly “reluctant” to follow police commands but was detained without incident. Officers then conducted a sweep of the home, finding another broken window and a shattered crystal oil lamp.

In the kitchen, police spotted food scattered across a table: Twizzlers, chocolate-covered pecans, peppermints, shortbread cookies, Sprite, and a carton of Breyer’s ice cream.

An incident report values the consumed items at approximately $30. Ownby allegedly admitting to eating them because he “was hungry and homeless.”
