Sex offender apprehended in Georgia – News – The Times – Florida News

A Carrabelle man, first listed as a sexual offender 21 years ago, was returned safely from Georgia last week to face a new set of sexual misconduct charges here in Franklin County.

Sheriff A.J. Smith said deputies picked up 40-year-old Gary L. Denny, Jr, 40, from the jail in Henry County after he waived extradition. He was placed in the county jail, on $101,000 bond

Denny was arrested April 12 in that central Georgia county on active warrants for sexual battery on a person under 16 – victim physically incapacitated, and for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Smith said Denny fled from Florida last week, and a search begun for his whereabouts.

According to Capt. Mike Ireland, with the Henry County Police Department, an unknown female called the department early last week to say Denny was staying at a location in Hampton, Georgia, and indicated to authorities the type of vehicle he was driving.

After confirming that the owner of the Chevy Trailblazer was indeed Denny, an officer with the department made contact with Denny’s father, and Denny was taken into custody without incident.

Ireland said the vehicle was towed and released to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

According to court records for Franklin County, Denny was found guilty in April 1996, when he was 19 years old, of committing lewd and lascivious acts on a child under age 16. In the terms of his probation, he was ordered placed on the state’s sexual offender list.

In March 2011, Denny was adjudicated guilty of failing to comply with all the terms of the sexual offender…
