Sunshine Industries opens new facility – News – The Daily Ardmoreite – Oklahoma News

The sun shined brightly on a new facility that will bring services and care to many people in Southern Oklahoma.
Guests gathered for a celebration and ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the new Sunshine Adult Day Services building on Wednesday, with city representatives, board members and other guests seeing the new facilities for the first time. The plans for a new facility were first drawn up in 2013 and the $4 million facility was recently completed.
“This dream building came through,” Tammy Long, director of Sunshine Adult Day Services, said. “It helps us provide more support for more folks that need us.”
The facility is a branch of Sunshine Industries, which provides health, social and support services for individuals requiring a supervised structural environment. The Adult Day services works with adults with cognitive and physical disabilities to increase their level of independence, education and foster socialization and peer interaction.
Guests were given tours of the new facility, which is complete with two safe rooms, exercise rooms, a large kitchen and a dining area. The entire building is a lockdown facility and has been tailored for the programs needs. Each door in the facility is wide enough to allow passage for hospital beds, making the facility fully accessible for the individuals being served.
With the new facility, Long said the program is licensed for 96 people. A waiting list has already formed for people in the area looking to become part of the program.
