HARLINGEN — Mike and Kelly Ann Hernandez didn’t bring apples to Texas State Technical College teachers Wednesday.
Instead, they arrived with a $100,000 check to bolster scholarship opportunities for students in the pursuit of careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
“Everything starts with education,” Mike Hernandez said. “Without education we can’t have the trained workforce that we need in order to recruit the companies we need who provide high-paying jobs.”
Hernandez’s donation will be applied to TSTC’s Texans Success Scholarship to help incoming Brownsville students. However, TSTC President Dr. Stella Garcia said the college matches all donations to this campaign, and the matching funds will be open to all incoming freshman interested in a STEM career.
