Berkeley Police Department issues shelter in place because of alleged gunman – California News

Berkeley Police Department released a Nixle alert about 4:46 p.m. Friday, issuing a shelter in place in the area of McKinley Avenue and Allston Way.

The alert advised community members to avoid the 2200 block of McKinley Avenue, the 1800 block of Allston Way, the 1800 block of Bancroft Way and the 2200 block of Grant Street. It added that there is police activity in those areas and that officers may be checking behind buildings and homes.

According to Berkeleyside, police are looking for a man who was allegedly seen with a gun in the area. Berkeleyside reported that the suspect was described in scanner traffic as an 18- to 20-year-old Black man wearing a blue polo shirt and acid-washed ripped jeans.

Anyone who witnesses anything suspicious is asked to call 911.
