The six-student Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) team at Lake Arrowhead Elementary (LAE) School, along with Mr. Bingy the robot, are going to World.
For the fifth grade team consisting of Christopher Whitty, Ryan Terreri, Leah Lira, Lily Richardson, Tomas Viramontes and Hunter Ball, this means going to Michigan on May 24 to 27 to “compete against the very best teams from over 20 countries—the largest international problem-solving competition worldwide,” said Team Coach Denise Calaprice-Whitty.
Qualifying for World means that the LAE team beat out almost 100 other teams in the state of California by solving challenging problems in a highly entertaining fashion. It’s especially challenging, Calaprice-Whitty said, because the program draws from the Gifted and Talented Education program (GATE), as well as other clever and creative students.
