WILKES-BARRE — A city man accused of fatally shooting a man in the back saw murder charges bound over to county court for prosecution Friday.
Dominic Jaquariuspa Ray, 24, is facing charges of criminal homicide and illegally possessing a firearm in a shooting outside the Sherman Hills apartment complex last year.
According to prosecutors, Ray shot and killed Victor Grandy, 32, of Far Rockaway, New York, in front of 300 Parkview Circle shortly before 8 p.m. Oct. 16. Police arriving on scene found Grandy lying on the ground at the main entrance to the building, shot in the back.
Security surveillance footage showed Grandy walking down a ramp at the building, heading toward Building 328, where he met two other people. Testifying on Friday, police Detective Shane Yelland said Grandy shook the hand of one of them — known on the streets as “K.D.” — in what the detective said could “possibly” have been a gang sign.
“That doesn’t happen with Dominic (Ray),” Yelland said. “He gets irate.”
