Midwest Teens for Christ will be held Sunday, May 28 from 3 to 6 p.m., with an evening service to follow. The free event will take place at the Church of Christ in Augusta, located at 3500 Ohio St. Activities will include singing, a meal and a lesson with guest speaker Ryan Rising, a part-time preacher in Waverly.
Midwest Teens for Christ is facilitated by a network of 10 to 12 Churches of Christ.
“We’re working with other Churches of Christ in the southern Kansas area,” Jesse LeMay, preaching minister at the Augusta Church of Christ, said.
Teenagers from all over southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma will meet at a different congregation on the last Sunday of each month for Midwest Teens for Christ. The event started February 2017, and Church of Christ in Augusta hosted the first one. About 63 kids showed up to the first Midwest Teens for Christ event.
“Some smaller congregations will bring their kids since they may not have big youth groups. So the idea is for them to bring their kids and be involved that night with other youth groups, too. So that’s great for them,” LeMay said.
Midwest Teens for Christ is for anyone in the middle school through high school age, and it’s open to any congregation that wants to come. Although it’s orchestrated by Churches of Christ, any denomination is welcome.
“The whole point is for young kids to get together …. They’ll get a meal, a message and some great fellowship,” LeMay said.
Next month, Midwest Teens for Christ will be held in Arkansas City, Kan.
