CLYDE – Interstate 40 East was shutdown Friday morning due to a vehicle accident at Exit 7 near the Tennessee state line. The interstate remained closed overnight with state transportation officials hoping to reopen the road by noon Saturday.
The exit is at Cold Springs Creek and Harmon Den, which is near Clyde in Haywood County.
Transportation officials said an overturned tanker truck filled with tar caused the road closure around 7:40 a.m. Friday.
Officials recommend that motorists take Exit 7. Drive over Cold Springs Creek and Harmon Den Road and merge left to re-access I-40 East.
