“Skywarn teaches emergency responders and the public how to spot dangerous weather by reading storm clouds,” Kohlstedt said. “National Weather Service meteorologists present the program, and I learn more each time I attend.”
The National Weather Service also relies upon trained local Skywarn spotters to alert them to severe weather so they can do a better job of warning others. Law Enforcement officers are some of our best spotters, and they can earn two hours of Police Officer Standards and Training credits for attending this training.
Those interested should contact BJ Kohlstedt at email@example.com or by calling (218) 226-4444.
“Reading the clouds helps us respond to severe weather even when we’re out of the reach of NWS weather warnings,” Kohlstedt said. “It’s an important skill for all of us to have.”
