DARDANELLE — Emotions soared through the Dardanelle Community Center on Friday as the events of the annual Police Memorial Ceremony unfolded.
Officers from across the county gathered with loved ones in attendance to honor and celebrate those in blue for National Police Week, which continues through Sunday.
A table was set in front of the stage, adorned with pictures of those fallen officers over the past year from across Arkansas. A Dardanelle officer cited the End of Watch (EOW) for each one — Lt. Kevin Mainhart, Yell County Sheriff’s Department, End of Watch (EOW) May 11, 2017; Corrections Officer Lisa Anne Mauldin, Miller County Sheriff’s Office, EOW Dec. 19, 2016; Patrolman Robert Aaron Barker, McCrory Police Department, EOW Sept. 15, 2016; Cpl. William Pressley Cooper, Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office, EOW Aug. 10, 2016; and K9 Lina, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, EOW Sept. 9, 2016.
Dardanelle Police Chief Montie Sims welcomed guests and the Yell County Honor Guard conducted the posting of colors, followed by the National Anthem by the Dardanelle High School choir and invocation by Gabriel Almeyda. Yell County Sheriff Bill Gilkey led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Major Tom Berryhill recited a poem.
