Volunteers from PolyOne Corporation partnered with the Lorain County Volunteer Connection to beautify General Johnnie Wilson Park at the corner of Fulton Avenue and Plant Street in Lorain on May 19. The park is home to the Lorain County Raging Raptors youth football team.
Volunteers broke up into teams and worked on several projects which included pavilion and bench repairs, landscaping and mulching and the refurbishment of the park’s basketball court which included repainting the lines.
After working with United Way of Greater Lorain County’s Week of Caring in fall 2016, Marketing and Development Director Ryan Aroney said the Avon Lake-based company approached them about future projects in the park and arranged to adopt the park. PolyOne works with Lorain County Volunteer Connection and will return for future projects throughout the year.
“Safe and clean parks are important assets for every community, but they take time, volunteers and resources to maintain,” said Kyle Rose, PolyOne Corporation’s vice president of corporate communications and a volunteer on May 19. “We’ve enjoyed being part of this ongoing community effort here in Lorain.”
In addition, United Way is celebrating its 100th anniversary in Lorain County and will be doing a number of signature centennial events throughout the year with the park restoration being among them.
