WAXAHACHIE — With new officers installed for the upcoming club year that begins in September, the Century Club of Waxahachie has recently expanded its influential group to about 40 members.
“There are so many good women’s clubs in this town that are, corporately, doing amazing work that needs to be known,” expressed Jane Ann Shipp, Second Vice President of the Century Club. “People who come to this are going to enjoy the comradery of older women. I’ve learned a lot from them. To me, they really are an inspiration because I’m thinking, ‘I want to be like that when I’m 80.’ I want to enjoy life like they do.”
President of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs — Trinity District, Wanda Godso, presided over the installation of the new officers and welcomed the women into leadership.
Organized in 1911, the Century Club has been in unremitted, active existence for over a hundred years.
“The Century Club has gone from one generation to the next, being one of Waxahachie’s oldest clubs in continuous operation,” Shipp confirmed.
Under the umbrella of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs, the Century Club is one of many found throughout Ellis County that’s geared towards community service and public education.
“We promote educational and cultural programs, so every year we have a theme and this year will be ‘Women in the Arts,’” Shipp foretold the expectation for the 2017-year. “So it’ll be authors, artists, and we’ll have speakers that will come in, and it’s very informative and educational.”
