• Blue Springs Fishing Derby, for ages 5 to 14, 8:30 a.m. registration; 9 a.m. start time, Railroad Lake at Rotary Park, 600 N.W. Vesper St. The lake will be freshly stocked for this event. Bring your own fishing pole and bait and try your luck in contests for best cast and largest fish caught. Winners from each age division receive prizes. Participants may enjoy a free hot dog, chips and drink. For questions, call 228-0137.

• “Puss in Boots,” presented by Urban Prairie Puppets, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Puppetry Arts Institute, 11025 E. Winner Road, Independence. This is a classic tale of a clever cat and a magical pair of boots. Tickets are $6, and are available at the door, but reservations are requested, call 833-9777.

• The Drifters, The Coasters and The Platters will perform, gates open at 5 p.m.; with the concert beginning at 7 p.m., Legacy Park Amphitheater, 897 N.E. Bluestem Drive, Lee’s Summit. These three groups, who were influential in establishing the “Motown sound,” join forces for an incredible night of hits under the stars. Advance tickets are $25 and are available at rocktheamp.net or by calling 969-1500. Tickets may be purchased at the gate for $35 the night of the show.
