KFC is launching a chicken sandwich to the edge of space via a giant World View balloon. Video by Jessica Saggio, posted June 13, 2017.
Godspeed, KFC spicy Zinger sandwich
The KFC spicy Zinger sandwich will boldly go where no chicken sandwich has gone before.
With its own custom-made space vessel and some help from World View’s Stratollite vehicle, the KFC chicken sandwich plans to make useless history by being the first chicken sandwich to venture into space. Somebody’s thirsty for attention…
KFC will launch its chicken sandwich June 21 via the Stratollite vehicle, which is basically a bunch of high-altitude balloons.Someone please tell me this is secretly the sequel to the movie Up.
Bad news for us spoiled Brevardians, though. The launch isn’t going to happen here. Womp Womp. The sandwich will lift off from Tucson, Arizona.
Here’s the thing. This isn’t just a gimmick. The launch does indeed serve a purpose other than seeing the effects of atmospheric pressure on fast food. The Stratollite vehicle needed a long-duration test run with a payload. Up until now, the Stratollite has only done six to 12 hour stints in the stratosphere. This mission will last four days, and will hopefully return a not-so-finger-lickin’-good, four-day-old spicy Zinger sandwich safely back to Earth.
