PROVIDENCE, R.I. — After two days of record-breaking heat, cooler weather is moving into the region on this Wednesday and temperatures will return to about normal, according to the National Weather Service.

“Cooler and less humid weather will prevail today and Thursday as high pressure builds over New England,” the Weather Service says in its forecast discussion. “High pressure will move east of New England on Friday and set the stage for a warm and moist southerly flow for the weekend with humid conditions and a threat of showers.”

Expect a high of 77 degrees under sunny skies in Providence on this Wednesday. The temperature will drop all the way to about 50 degrees tonight, 45 degrees cooler than the record highs hit on Monday and Tuesday.

Thursday also looks sunny with a high of 72.

Friday turns mostly cloudy and brings a chance of rain showers in the afternoon and evening. Expect a high of about 71.
