Boat parade organizer speaks of ‘overwhelming support’ | Monticello Herald Journal – Indiana News

While the Kiwanis Club of Monticello celebrated its 80th anniversary on Monday, Joe Crivello told the Kiwanians about how he, his wife Sherill and Steve Jones began the Proud to be an American Boat Parade 13 years ago.

Every year, the Madam Carroll fills up with military veterans and leads a line of boats. A flight demo by the Hooligans precision flight demo team and a water ski show accompany the parade. Afterward, participants meet at Monticello City Park for free food, games and live music.

More than 100 boats will follow Madam Carroll this year, the Purdue University Jazz Band led by Dr. Mo Trout will play live music, and the Cannonball Express train will give free rides this year, among several other festivities.

The parade grows every year, Crivello said. Crivello and Jones organized the first boat parade three weeks before the event.
