Suspect has been identified, but no arrest has been made.

CANTON  Police have identified a suspect in the Sunday shooting of a city man near Plain Avenue and 14th Street NE.

Capt. David Kurzinsky said detectives are continuing to investigate what they now consider a homicide. They did not have enough evidence to make an arrest as of midday Wednesday.

“We believe it just involved one suspect, but we’re still following up on leads right now,” Kurzinsky said.

Canton officers responded about 9:41 a.m. Sunday and found Jalen M. Dicenzi, 22, of Canton, with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Investigators believe Dicenzi was driving east on 14th Street NE when someone fired twice at the vehicle, which crashed into a porch in the 1000 block of 14th Street NE.

Harry Campbell, chief investigator for the Stark County Coroner’s Office, said Tuesday that Dicenzi had been declared brain dead. He remained at Aultman Hospital on Wednesday, according to authorities.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the police Detective Bureau at 330-489-3144 or through the anonymous Tip411 system.
