A man reached out of the vehicle and grabbed the purse as the victim was loading her trunk with groceries.
EASTON – A woman was robbed of her pocketbook on Monday in an incident that police believe may be connected to others in the area.
Police responded to the Roche Bros. Supermarket parking lot, at 25 Washington St., about 2:30 p.m., for a report of a theft.
Officers learned that a 77-year-old woman was putting groceries in the trunk of her vehicle when a car pulled alongside her.
“The victim stated that a front-seat passenger in the sedan leaned out of the vehicle and pulled her pocketbook from the shopping carriage she was using,” Deputy Police Chief Keith Boone said.
The car then sped away in an unknown direction. Police searched the town for the vehicle, but didn’t locate it. The woman was not injured.
The victim told police the driver and passenger were black men, but couldn’t provide any other description. The purse contained an undisclosed amount of cash and credit cards when it was stolen. It wasn’t recovered.
“The suspect(s) may be involved in previous thefts of the same nature over the past year in this shopping area,” Boone said.
Easton police detectives are investigating the crime.
