Vernon, N.Y. >> Vernon Downs will shut down operations before the end of the calendar year if a bill designed to provide tax relief to the track does not pass the New York State Assembly.
With five days of session remaining in Albany, Jeff Gural, Chairman of American Racing and Entertainment and Vernon Downs owner, announced today that although the New York State Senate, through the efforts of Senators Joseph Griffo and John Bonacic, passed legislation providing tax relief for Vernon Downs last week, the Vernon destination will be forced to close if the Assembly does not do the same.
As of today, the New York State Assembly has not shown any signs of making the same effort, Gural said in a release.
In order to ensure strict compliance with the Labor Law, Vernon Downs has also announced the dates in which different portions of the entertainment complex will be shut down:
•September 10, 2017: the casino, Champions Buffet, Ring Eyed Pete’s and Triple 777 Café will close;
•November 11, 2017, the racetrack, Gold Cup Buffet and Miracle Mile will shut down;
•December 18, 2017, the hotel and Mr. G’s Food & Spirits will close.
