(2007) Johnny Kennedy took over the Conway High School track program after Andy Dean announced his retirement. Kennedy, a Conway native, coached at Carl Stuart then took over the 9th grade Blue team before moving to assistant football coach at the high school.

Rita Cavenaugh, hired as an animal control consultant, recommended that the county impose a yearly fee on taxpayers to improve the animal control program. She suggested $4 per citizen that would raise $180,000 after a year.

Students in the summer driver’s education course at CHSW learned how drunk driving can affect the lives of generations of people.

(1992) In its ad, Petit Jean Technical College offered 22 options in occupational and technical education. College transfer courses taught by Arkansas Tech were also offered. Tuition was $27 a credit hour or $324 a semester. Child care was available.

Helene Stallcup, Deb’y S. Gaj, Betty Fraser, George Oxford Millrz, Kathy Trower, Patti I. Hill and Julie Cramer Lester were local winners at the Arkansas Writers’ Conference.

Vandiver Sales was holding an Arkansas National Exotic Auction at Lewis Livestock. A special Ostrich, emu and rhea seminar would be held before the auction. Twenty-three different kinds of animals would be auctioned.

(1967) The City Council received the news that the Conway Municipal Airport improvements would cost considerably more money than anticipated. Land acquisition was costing more and construction costs had advanced over the three-year period. One of the principal improvements was the building of a new north-south runway.
