Burglars break into Marengo gun shop, steal unknown number of firearms –  Illinois News

MARENGO – Three or four individuals crashed through the primary and secondary doors of Marengo Guns, 20014 E. Grant Highway, around 1:40 a.m. Thursday and stole several firearms, shop owner Dominic DeBock said.

DeBock said he wasn’t sure how many and which specific firearms were stolen as of Thursday morning, but he hoped to know by the end of the day. The burglars set off the shop’s security alarm when they broke through the consecutive doors but were able to escape with the firearms before police arrived, DeBock said.

“We experienced an attempted burglary about a year ago and made security improvements following that,” he said. “These guys were just quite a bit slicker.”

Police are working to identify the individuals using both Marengo Guns’ security footage and security footage from nearby shops, Marengo Police Chief Rich Solarz said. He did not know of any leads on suspects as of Thursday afternoon.

“Hopefully we can recover fast. The most important thing is to keep these people off the street,” DeBock said.
