Geraldine Bruce and her husband are on their way to becoming the proud owners of the rundown, tax-forfeited property next door to their home on Phelps Street. It’s a land parcel Bruce said they had been wanting to purchase and were finally able to thanks to it being sold at 50 percent of market value.
“It’s right next door,” Bruce said, referring to the property at 1714 Phelps St. “My husband, right now, he keeps the yard up. There is a house there, but it’s not good. It’s not livable. We want to get that piece of property so that we can maybe be able to build my grand boys a basketball court.”
