Event will welcome BAK riders to Leavenworth – News – The Leavenworth Times – Leavenworth, KS –  Kansas News

The public is invited to greet 850 cyclists as they arrive in Leavenworth on Saturday and wrap up a 522-mile journey across the state.

The public is invited to greet 850 cyclists as they arrive in Leavenworth on Saturday and wrap up a 522-mile journey across the state.

Leavenworth will be the final stop for this year’s participants of the Biking Across Kansas program.

Various organizations are partnering for a celebration in downtown Leavenworth to welcome the riders. Brendan Sheehan, one of the organizers, said the event will last from 8 to 10 a.m.

“There will be a lot of cool stuff going on in those two hours,” said Sheehan, owner of Santa Fe Trails Bicycle Shop.

The event will take place around the Riverfront Community Center and on Delaware Street between Third and Esplanade streets.

Sheehan said two blocks of Delaware Street will be closed to traffic for the event.

“We are going to have a stage in the street,” he said.

He said there will be music and an announcer will greet riders as they arrive.

He said the first 250 spectators will be provided with cowbells they can use to cheer on the cyclists.

“We hope to have as many spectators as possible,” he said.

Sheehan said he wants the cyclists to have a positive experience in Leavenworth.
