Park Rapids jumped out to a 3-0 lead by scoring a run in the second inning and two runs in the third. Will Pickar, Nathan David and Cameron Hoyt singled with two outs in the second to account for the game’s first run while a lead-off walk and stolen base by Tristin Persons, an RBI single by Sam Eystad and an error made it 3-0 in the third.
Park Rapids starter Gabe Bagstad cruised through the first four innings, allowing only three baserunners on two singles and an error. The Hornets then sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead.
Two walks set up the two-out rally as an RBI single by Logan Wacker, a two-run triple by Rory Drewes, an RBI single by Tanner Tappe and a bases-loaded walk to Thomas Stenger produced the game-winning runs.
Austin Jerger’s solo home run with one out in the bottom of the fifth concluded the scoring.
Bagstad took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six. Eystad took over in the fifth and gave up one run on one hit and three walks with two strikeouts.
Pickar went 3 for 4 and Eystad went 2 for 4 to led Park Rapids’ 11-hit attack. The Panthers struck out 10 times and stranded 10 runners on base, including two in the second, third and fifth innings.
The Panthers, who were the No. 2 seed in the North, end the season at 11-11. Park Rapids defeated Frazee by scores of 1-0 and 9-6 during the regular season.
