Chris Wilkes has long considered himself a skilled outdoorsman.
The Hattiesburg resident grew up on a dairy farm in southeast Louisiana, where he and his brother, Brody, fell in love with hunting, fishing, camping and the like.
Over the years, the Wilkes brothers furthered their knowledge and tested their boundaries, becoming more adept at what Chris likes to call “extreme camping.”
Now, Chris, 44, and Brody, 33, will put their expertise to the test in front of the world. The pair makes up one of seven two-person teams on season four of “Alone,” HISTORY’S popular reality show. This season’s premiere episode airs at 9 p.m. Thursday.
The series takes place on the remote Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where cast members are tasked with surviving and outlasting the other participants, no matter how long it takes. Each team, which was screened rigorously ahead of time, will begin the challenge separated by miles with only five pre-approved survival items, the contents of a small backpack and enough camera gear to record their experiences.
