Heartland RSVP honors volunteers at annual banquet – News – Kirksville Daily Express – Kirksville, MO –  Missouri News

Heartland RSVP celebrated the work of their local volunteers during an annual banquet Tuesday afternoon.

Heartland RSVP celebrated the work of their local volunteers during an annual banquet Tuesday afternoon. 

The organization held its 44th Annual RSVP Recognition Banquet at the Kirksville Moose Lodge, where dozens of volunteers were honored for their years of service. 

“Throughout the year, all the volunteers are out in their community, doing their things, volunteering at different sites,” said Pat Selby said, Heartland RSVP director. “A lot of the volunteer sites recognize their volunteers but this is a time when all of our RSVP volunteers can be together, and we celebrate the years that they’ve been in it and what they do in the community.”

Selby said it’s always nice to see how thankful some clients are for the service of the Heartland RSVP volunteers. 

“I know that (the volunteer sites) would not be able to provide the services that they do at the level they do if it weren’t for the assistance of the volunteers,” Selby said. “(Service work) does as much for the volunteer as it does for the person that they’re helping.”

Adair County Second District Commissioner Mark Thompson served as the guest speaker for the event. He thanked the volunteers for their work in the community. 

“Other than Retired Senior Volunteer Program, I think, that RSVP should stand for: resourceful, smart, valuable people. That’s what you are,” Thompson said. “You are truly angels, you are blessed and we are blessed here in…
