MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. – Three municipalities in Mingo County cast ballots to elect mayor and council members Tuesday. Unofficial results from elections held in Williamson, Gilbert and Matewan have been released.
According to vote totals from the Williamson Municipal Election, Democratic mayoral candidate Charles Hatfield was elected to be the next mayor of Williamson. The totals were announced late Tuesday evening. Charles Hatfield received 197 votes defeating Republican candidate Elliott E. (Tack)Maynard III. Maynard received 53 votes.
Mayor elect, Charles Hatfield issued the following statement regarding Tuesday’s victory, “I want to thank everyone for their support throughout the primary race in April and the general election held yesterday. Also, I am confident our newly elected Council and I are going to make the election process better for the City by having one non-partisan election in the future. Our Council is excited, energetic and ready and I am as anxious as they are to get underway. We will together work to make you proud of your City and thank you for this wonderful opportunity to make a difference!”
Vote totals for those running for Williamson Council were also announced. In Ward I, Randall Price took home 39 votes. In Ward II, Sherri- Hairston Brown received 36 votes. In Ward III, Ralph Hall received 42 votes. In Ward IV, Joe Venturino received 83 votes.
Unofficial election totals have been announced for the Gilbert Municipal Election. Running in the mayoral race was incumbent Vivian Livingood who defeated Johnny Adams. Livingood received 112 votes compared to Adams 17 votes.
