MLB draft: UCA’s Tice and Gray drafted on final day | TheCabin.net – Arkansas News

University of Central Arkansas pitchers Ty Tice and Tyler Gray were selected Wednesday in the Major League Baseball draft.

Tice was drafted in the 16th round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Mainly used as a reliever, Tice was 2-3 with a 4.45 ERA.

Gray went in the 20th round to the Minnesota Twins. He was 6-6 with a 3.80 ERA.

UCA now has had seven players drafted in the last seven years.

Arkansas Razorbacks pitchers Blaine Knight of Bryant and Josh Alberius of Little Rock Christian were drafted in Wednesday’s third and final day.

Knight, a turning 21 on June 28 draft eligible sophomore right-hander, was drafted in the 29th round and 884th draft selection by the Texas Rangers om Wednesday.

Alberius, a senior right-hander, was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 38th round at the 1,079th overall pick.

Knight, who would up his pro stock strengthening his spindly 6-3, 165 frame, apparently had indicated a high price tag that dropped him to the 29th round this year but could elevate dramatically improving on a strong 2017.

Recruits signed with the Razorbacks but now in position to weigh draft options are pitcher Daniel Tillo, a graduated high school senior from Sioux City Iowa now considering a third-round offer from the Kansas City Royals; outfielder Caanan Smith a high school grad from Rockwall, Texas, drafted in he fourth round by the New York Yankees.
