Saturday morning, 10 June 2017, American Legion Riders across the State of Colorado set out to collect funds for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship. American Legion Riders from Manzanola Post 168 and La Junta Post 9 were no exception, collecting funds from all the Posts in District One. The Riders were joined by American Legion Department of Colorado Senior Vice Commander Terri L. Clinton and American Legion Auxiliary President Evelyn Espinola as well as Rocky Ford Postmaster Renee Kern and her husband Rod Kern. Riders also received a $200 donation from Dickey’s Barbecue Pit and a personal $50 donation from manager Ukiah Ramirez.
After collecting donations from ALR Post 9 and Post 9, the Riders set out on the Run at 9 a.m. from the La Junta City Park with the first stop at Lamar, Colorado, picking up donations from Lamar, Holly and Eads posts. Then the Riders were back on the road to Las Animas to collect a donation from American Legion Post 6 in Las Animas. After collecting the donation from the Las Animas Post the Riders were back on the road to Manzanola to collect more donations and have lunch provided by Post 168, Post 96, Post 8 and District 1.
After lunch the Riders hit the road again for the last leg of their run to Phat Willy’s Diner in Fowler to meet with the members of ALR Post 2 for the handoff. All together the riders collected $1,637 for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship. The American Legion Legacy Scholarship…
