‘Rebel Without a Cause,’ U.S. Open Golf Championship On Tap Tonight – News – Times Reporter – Ohio News

In the mood for a good movie – or two? If so, tune to Turner Classic Movies (cable Channel 50) at 8 p.m. for the 1955 classic “Rebel Without a Cause.” “Rebel Without A Cause” launched James Dean’s film career even as it signaled its abrupt end. The film was released just one month after Dean died in a car accident near Paso Robles, Calif., at the age of 24.

The plot focuses on the tragedy that follows when a new-to-town, troublemaking teen meets other anguished children of feckless parents. Also in the cast are Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo, who received Academy Award nominations as best supporting actress and best supporting actor; and Jim Backus and Ann Doran, who play Dean’s parents.

“All That Heaven Allows,” also released in 1955, follows at 10:15 p.m. on Turner Classic Movies (cable Channel 50). Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson star in this tale of a a rich widow who being a romance with a man about 15 years younger that she is, and how her friends and family react.

Also in the cast are Agnes Moorehead, Conrad Nagel, and Virginia Grey. The film was directed by Douglas Sirk.

“Motown 25 (My Music Presents)” airs at 9:30 p.m. on PBS stations WEAO/WNEO-TV Channels 45/49 (cable Channel 14). The show features music groups reuniting to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Motown records.
