CHEBOYGAN- Cheboygan Area Schools will be interviewing candidates for a replacement intermediate school principal next week, as well as looking at candidates to replace former school board vice-president Frank Schneider.
Last month, the Cheboygan Area Schools Board of Education voted to accept the resignation of Intermediate School Principal Mark Oberman, who will be taking a new position as Petoskey’s Sheridan Elementary Principal.
“We’ve had the teachers and the administrators look through the applicants,” said Cheboygan Area Schools Superintendent Troy Reehl. “We’ve narrowed it down to about six. Our goal is to interview on the 21st.”
Reehl said the hope is to narrow down the pool from the six applicants to the two they feel would best fit the position after the interviews on June 21. The school would then do final interviews with the two candidates after that point.
“Again, I shared with the committee that if we don’t feel we have a valuable candidate, I have no problem going back out and reposting that position,” said Reehl. “I feel that it is very important that we get the right person in that position. So, they’re aware of that and we’ll be moving forward here soon.”
As soon as the hiring committee has something more definitive, Reehl said he will update the school board.
The interviews with the candidates will be taking place most of the day on June 21, with two different teams interviewing the applicants. The interviews will not be open to the public, they will take place with a closed, small group committee.
