The Durant Daily Democrat | South 9th traffic light demolished – Oklahoma News

The hanging traffic light at the corner of S. 9th and Louisiana was removed by the City of Durant after it was damaged by a motorist. The light had been in place for more than half a century when the driver of a double wide trailer moving company hit the signal. Another one will be replaced at that location later this summer.

The traffic light on south 9th at Louisiana in front of Robert E. Lee School is not in place.

A driver pulling a double wide trailer smashed the light as he was traveling north a few days ago.

Witnesses said chunks of metal were hanging and the driver didn’t even know he demolished it.

The speed limit does not deter speeding in that area without the light in place to stop motorists periodically.

Waitresses at Wright’s Drive In, at that location said, “People zoom by here even worse now that the light is gone.”

Traffic going either direction on south 9th has no traffic signal for a couple of miles until the bypass.

A source tells the Democrat that two lights will go up on that stretch soon.

One will be a new light at Texas street, so that “There will be a light at both ends of the school.”

The second light will replace the light demolished by the trailer.
