What is a Silent Witness and how do you become one?
A man accused of robbing Avondale bank tellers at gunpoint on Wednesday afternoon was arrested after officers spotted him driving, Avondale police said.
Police received a call about an armed robbery at Credit Union West in the 500 block of West Van Buren Street in Avondale just before 5 p.m., said Sgt. Thomas Alt of the Avondale Police Department.
Employees told officers the man was wearing dark clothing and had his face covered when he entered the credit union, brandishing a gun and demanding money from the tellers, Alt said.
The man left the credit union with an unknown amount of money, Alt said.
Officers located the man driving a vehicle in the 12700 block of West Buckeye Road, and he was taken into custody without further incident, Alt said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation responded to the incident and is continuing an investigation.
Further details were not immediately available.
