FAIRBANKS — John Schauer placed first in the men’s kayak/canoe division and won overall Tuesday night in the Beaver Sports Summer Paddle Series race on the Chena River.
The second race in the three-race series attracted 53 people on 32 watercraft that included kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards and a rowboat.
Schauer, whose watercraft is named “No Dog, No Tricks,” finished in 59 minutes, 37 seconds on the 71/2-mile course from Graehl Landing to the Chena Small Tracts.
Cathryn Fordham, competing in “Nightshade,” won the women’s kayak/canoe division in 1 hour, 7 minutes and 58 seconds.
Spouses Jen and Peter Delamere guided their craft, “Spitfire,” to the coed kayak/canoe title in 1:12:27.
The Haribro’s crew of Lance Russell, Richard Rosold and Joshua Damm took the Gang Team kayak/canoe honor in 1:03:10.
Greg Whisenhant and Tobin Sworts, racing in “Death By Chocolate,” won in 59:49 in the men’s racing hull division and finished second overall. Ken Leary and Jane LeBlond were the division’s coed winners in 1:02:30.
Mel Weeks, racing on “Shake-N-Bank,” won the men’s stand-up paddleboard division in 1:06:28, and Stephanie Barney gained the women’s title in 1:25:00.

The final race of the series is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 11 at Graehl Landing, and the course goes for 9.5 miles to the Pump House Restaurant.
