The football stadium at Tuscaloosa County High School will have 230 new premium seats thanks to $18,000 from the discretionary funds of County Commissioner Stan Acker.
The County Commission on Wednesday voted to approve the expense, which Acker said will allow the school to order the seats very soon.
“It’s going to be 230 seats with chairbacks and arm rests,” Acker said. “This will allow them to sell these as a premium package, as reserved seating for fans.”
Acker said the new seats are expected to be placed right below the stadium’s press box on the home side, but that’s not set in stone.
“That’s just my understanding,” Acker said. “We’ll have to leave that to the actual designers.”
Acker said the more comfortable seats will be installed in the next couple of months and will improve the stadium for all its uses – football games, band competitions, graduations and more.
“We’re going to get them in before football season this year,” Acker said. “They’ll order them now that we’ve approved this and hopefully get them in in July or early August.”
