Aerospace manufacturer expands and could add 155 Gilbert jobs – Arizona News

Orbital ATK launched its latest expansion in Gilbert, marking the company’s growth in the state’s aerospace sector.

The expansion added office space a stone’s throw away from the company’s 235,000-square-foot satellite manufacturing facility, which builds and tests space projects for contractors such as NASA.

“Space is becoming sexy again, and we’re right in the middle of it,” Rick Kettner, site director for Orbital’s Gilbert facility, said. 

Prior to the expansion, Orbital leased nearby office space for engineers. Those workers will now move into the new office near McQueen and Elliot roads, equipped with cubicles, meeting rooms and working lab spaces.

The expansion is expected to create 155 full-time jobs over the next five years.

Orbital’s Gilbert operations work with public and private partners to build satellites, including:

Iridium Next: The space systems facility is assembling, integrating and testing 81 satellites as a part of the Iridium Next project. The project, contracted with Thales Alenia Space and Iridium Communications, will replace satellites currently in space used to help strengthen worldwide communications.

The first set of Orbital satellites were successfully launched in January 2017, with another 10 satellites launched last week….
