TABASCO, Mexico (AP) — Antonio Lamas doubled and singled twice, driving home two runs as the Acereros del Norte defeated the Olmecas de Tabasco 6-2 on Thursday. The Acereros swept the three-game series with the win.
Manny Rodriguez homered and singled with two runs for Monclova.
Monclova started the scoring with a big fourth inning, when Rodriguez hit a solo home run and Ruben Rivera hit a three-run home run.
After the teams traded runs, the Olmecas cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Jordany Valdespin hit an RBI single, bringing home Carlos Colmenares.
The Acereros tacked on another run in the ninth when Lamas hit an RBI double, driving in Jose Amador.
Monclova starter Franklin Morales (1-0) picked up the win after allowing just three hits over 5 1/3 scoreless innings. Opposing starter Carlos Teller (2-5) took the loss in the Mexican League game after giving up five runs and nine hits over six innings.
Sandy Madera singled twice, also stealing two bases for the Olmecas.
With the win, Monclova improved to 5-1 against Tabasco this season.
