DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Bijan Rademacher hit a three-run double in the fifth inning, leading the Iowa Cubs to a 5-2 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Thursday.
The double by Rademacher scored Jemile Weeks, Kyle Schwarber, and Chris Dominguez to break a scoreless tie.
New Orleans answered in the top of the next frame when Moises Sierra hit a two-run double to cut the deficit to one.
The Cubs later tacked on a run in both the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Stephen Bruno scored on a stolen base, while Dominguez hit a solo home run in the seventh.
Iowa right-hander Casey Kelly (5-1) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. Opposing starter Odrisamer Despaigne (0-4) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game after allowing three runs and nine hits over five innings. Matt Carasiti recorded his 14th save of the season.
For the Baby Cakes, Brandon Barnes doubled and singled.
