FAIRBANKS — Fairbanks Post 30, also known as the Alaska Wild, suffered its second American Legion Baseball loss in three nights on its home field.
The Wild fell 11-7 to Dimond Post 21, of Anchorage, in Friday’s nine-inning opener of a two-game series at Arco Field.
The Wild had led 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning with Jason Erdman’s triple that brought in Vonche Wood.
Wood scored another run and finished 2 for 4 at the plate with a RBI, a double and a walk. Stephen Trujillo batted 2 for 4 and drove in two runs.
Dimond’s Jesse Boese scored a game-high three runs while batting 2 for 5 with a RBI.
Jake Andresen scored twice for the visitors and batted 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. Dylan Montagna ended the night 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a double.
Matt Williams pitched 72/3 innings for the Wild, allowing eight hits and 11 runs with eight earned. He walked and struck out two batters each.
Erdman pitched no-hit relief for 11/3 innings, and he walked two and struck out two for the Wild, who are in last place among the eight teams in the American Division of Alaska American Legion Baseball at 6-15 overall and 3-12 division.
The Wild were coming off Wednesday’s 7-6 loss to the Fairbanks 49ers (Post 11).
McKenzie Montgomery earned the win on the mound Friday, as the Dimond starter gave up three hits, two walks and five runs (five earned) and struck out 5 in 3 2/3 innings.
